Jennifer Sylvor & Steve GreenbergCo-Chairs

Jennifer and Steve first met—but just barely—at Camp Tel Yehudah in 1980, when she was a chanicha and he was a madrich. They were both very active Young Judaeans, with Jennifer serving on national mazkirut and Steve on his regional mazkirut in Queens. They each attended Year Course—Steve in 1978-79 and Jennifer in 1982-83—both spending several months as volunteers in Dimona as part of their respective programs. In 1984, they each worked at Camp Tel Yehudah—Jennifer as a madricha, Steve as a merakez. This year they will celebrate their 22nd wedding anniversary.

After completing her undergaduate degree at Yale and receiving her PhD in Comparative Literature at UC Berkeley, Jennifer taught in the Jewish Studies department at McGill University in Montreal, focusing on Hebrew, Yiddish and Russian literature. She then moved to New York City and became Director of Education at the Jewish Museum. She subsequently taught at Rutgers University and is currently on the faculty of the English Department at CUNY’s Baruch College.

After college at American University, Steve made aliyah to Israel and worked as a DJ on the Voice of Peace Radio station, living on the Peace Ship. He then worked as a reporter for Israel Radio’s English news and as a Tel Aviv club DJ before returning to the US to earn an M.A. at Stanford. He has worked for 30 years in the music industry as a record producer, songwriter, manager, publisher and label executive, both for major labels, including a stint as President of Columbia Records, and for his own S-Curve label. He is a five-time Grammy Award nominee and a 2001 Grammy winner.  Additionally, S-Curve has been involved in the development of numerous tech start-ups, with a focus on Israeli companies.

Both Jennifer and Steve are involved community leaders, with Jennifer active in Congregation B’nai Jeshrun in Manhattan and as a member of the board of Camp Tel Yehudah. Steve is on the board of Young Judaea Global, as well as on the boards of The Arava Institute and The TJ Martell Foundation for Cancer Research.

Jennifer and Steve have two daughters, Amelia and Abigail Sylvor Greenberg. Both Amelia and Abigail have attended YJ Camp Sprout Lake and Camp Tel Yehudah.
