John W. Francfort, MD
John W. Francfort, MD has been a part of the medical staff at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center for thirty years. Dr. Francfort held the position of President of the Good Samaritan Medical Board from 2000-2002. He is the current Chairman of the Department of Surgery and has held that position since 2003. Dr. Francfort has also been a member of the Board of Trustees of Catholic Health Service since 2015 and currently has a faculty appointment at SUNY Stony Brook as Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery.
Dr. Francfort was born in New York City. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University in Chicago and went on to complete his medical degree at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. During his surgical training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, John met and married Patricia Shelbourne, a Sayville, New York native. John’s fellowship training in vascular surgery was completed at Northwestern University Memorial Hospital in Chicago; following which, he was appointed Assistant Professor of Surgery at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.
In 1988, the couple returned to Long Island and Dr. Francfort joined the staff at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, becoming its first Director of Trauma in 1995. In 1997, the New York State Trauma Society recognized him as a New York State Physician of Distinction. He served as President of the American College of Surgeons on Long Island from 1988 until 2000.
The Francforts have three children; Brian, Kaitlyn, and Kevin.
