St. Joseph Hospital was established in May 1999 through a joint sponsorship of Winthrop South Nassau University Health System and Catholic Health Services of Long Island. St. Joseph Hospital is a 203-bed, community hospital that provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient medical, critical care and surgical services. Its Emergency Department cares for more than 34,000 patients a year. Other vital services include an Ambulatory Surgery Unit; The Center for Sleep Medicine; Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Healing; a Diabetes Education Center; balance and foot therapy; speech and swallow services; a full scope of outpatient radiology services, including a new Cardiac CT scanner, MRI, nuclear camera and a full state-of-the-art PACS system; and is a certified Stroke Center. In the summer of 2017, CHS Cancer Center at St. Joseph Hospital, a six-bed infusion unit, will open.
The hospital primarily serves patients from the following communities: Massapequa, Farmingdale, Amityville, Levittown, Massapequa Park, Wantagh, Seaford, Bethpage, Bellmore, East Meadow, Lindenhurst, Copiague, Babylon, Hicksville, Plainview and Woodbury. Located in the southeast corner of Nassau County, St. Joseph’s primary service area resides in the aforementioned communities. The hospital has a primary service area population of approximately 300,000 with a secondary service area of approximately 100,000 for a combined service area of 400,000.
St. Joseph Hospital is a member of the Nassau/Suffolk Hospital Council, The Long Island Health Collaborative and the Long Island Health Network, a network of 10 hospitals that work together to lower health care costs and maintain local access to quality care to the communities they serve. The hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and Approved by the New York State Department of Health.
