We Care Initiatives & Grants

The WE CARE Fund is a part of the Nassau Bar Foundation Inc., the charitable arm of the Nassau County Bar Association. It was founded in 1988 by then Bar Association President Stephen Gassman. WE CARE is supported through donations and fundraising efforts of the legal profession and the community-at-large. The money is disbursed through charitable grants to improve the quality of life for children, the elderly, and others in need throughout Nassau County.   • Donations to food pantries and soup kitchens
  • Donation of holiday gifts for youth and families in emergency homeless shelters
  • Annual holiday party for disadvantaged and physically challenged children
  • The Safe Center LI formerly Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence
  • Nassau County Family Court Emergency Fund
  • Nurseries in Nassau County Family and District Courts
  • Safe homes for abused families
  • P.E.A.C.E. seminars for separating and divorcing parents
  • Sunrise Day Camp for Cancer Kids
  • Breast cancer prevention education in under-served communities
  • Kamp Kiwanis for underprivileged and physically challenged children
  • Defibrillators provided to four Nassau County courts
  • Sponsorship of Girl Scout troops in minority areas and a Boy Scout troop for the physically challenged
  • Thanksgiving dinner for the elderly
  • Built a model courtroom at Hempstead Middle School
  • Scholarship grants to high school graduates and law school students
  • Supervised Visitation Center
  • Support for the Nassau/Suffolk Law Services Committee, Inc. providing legal resources to low-income individuals
